Electricity
Electric is a standard 110 volts
(such as those used in the United States and
Canada) If your appliances do not use 110 volts
or flat two-pronged plugs, bring the requisite
adaptors and converters with you. Although
adaptors and converters are available in
Jamaica, they may not be easy to find.
Please keep in mind most resorts and hotels
offer hair dryers and iron please remember to
check with your resort |
Currency
Jamaican currency can be easily exchanged at
most resorts and most ATMs in Jamaica will
accept most international bank cards. We
recommend you only exchange the amount you will
need for tips to and from the resorts since
Couples resorts are all inclusive no money will
be needed, however if you do they can assist you
with currency exchange. |
Language
The official language of Jamaica is English,
although most Jamaicans speak a local patois
influenced by a combination of several different
languages. It may take some time for you to
become accustomed to it. When that happens,
though, you’ll have fun trying the local
expressions |
Holidays
Jamaica celebrates 10 official holidays and most
banks and public offices may close on these days
New Years Day, Labour Day,
Emancipation Day , Independence Day,
Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Ash Wednesday, Good
Friday, Easter and Heroes Day. |
Getting Around
Jamaicans drive on the left and speed limits in
towns are 30mph and on highway 50mph.
Jamaica recognizes most international drivers
listed and visitors from North America may use
your drivers licenses up to 3 months.
However keep in mind while on vacation you will
have no need to rent a car since Jamaica offers
public transportation in most areas and resorts
will offer transportation to many sights and
attractions. |
Water
Water in Jamaica
safe for you to drink, clean your teeth, bathe
and wash clothing in. We understand though, that
some people are still wary about drinking the
water in a strange country. If you choose not to
drink the water, rest assured, there are many
brands of Jamaican Spring water that meet or
exceed the highest international standards,
available at most shops and restaurants. |
